Finding it tough to get into the holiday spirit? Can’t shake off that nagging voice that you might be The Grinch? Don’t let the blues get you down. Here’s how to psych yourself up for Christmas.
Volunteer to deliver food hampers (and some cheer) to the underprivileged
Deliver some Christmas cheer to the underprivileged in Singapore. If you’ve got a car and one or two people to help, put your names and wheels down for The Boys’ Brigade Share A Gift. This exercise is on from now till 31 December 2016. Here are some tips that you might find helpful: (1) Clear your boot so there’s space for at least 10 bags; (2) Get a foldable trolley so you don’t have to make multiple trips to and from your vehicle; (3) Be patient as many of the recipients are the aged and may have trouble moving quickly to answer the door; (4) Don’t forget to do this with a smile and a warm heart! Make your Christmas gift count for something more!

Buy a gift for someone who really needs it
This December, Jamie’s Italian Singapore is collaborating with the Singapore Children’s Society to organised a fun-filled Christmas party at its VivoCity restaurant for the youths from Sunbeam Place, a residential home and place of safety for children in need of protection or proper care. 30 youths aged 7 to 16 will be treated to a Christmas feast at Jamie’s Italian on 13 December.
Diners at Jamie’s Italian are invited to play a part by dropping in gift donations at designated toy banks set up at both Jamie’s Italian outlets. To make the day even more special, they can also donate gifts via a gift registry https://www.giftster.
Save the planet with every gift you buy
US President-elect Donald Trump may not believe in climate change but we do and, we would like as many people to participate in this Christmas campaign to build Bio-Bridges in the rainforests of Vietnam, Malaysia, and Indonesia. The programme aims to regenerate 75 million square metres of forest by 2020. Every specially selected Christmas gift set purchased at The Body Shop from now till 25 December will help protect 1 square metre of habitat and endangered animals. More details here.
It’s easy to become disillusioned with Christmas with all the mindless consuming happening around us. However, with a little effort and research, it is still possible to have a meaningful Christmas and let the festive spirit warm the cockles of your heart!
