9 Secrets Your Club Med Village Chief May Be Keeping From You The Great Escape

For an all-in-one holiday for the family, you can’t go wrong with Club Med Bali.

Did you know that Club Med is the first (and largest) resort to set up space along the beautiful beach of Nusa Dua in Bali?  Although 2016 marks Club Med Bali’s 30th anniversary, the destination is not slowing down any time soon. Come 2017, guests will be able to enjoy even more exciting activities at Club Med Bali, such as learning how to make traditional Balinese arts and crafts as well as participating in authentic Indonesian cooking demonstrations. After all, as Club Med CEO Henri Giscard d’Estaing shared during an interview with Go Away, “Club Med is not a resort brand. We are a premier all-inclusive concept, providing holidaymakers with unforgettable experiences in exceptional locations.”

And it’s true! During my time at Club Med Bali, I hardly spent any time in my room because I was often out and about in the resort taking part in yoga classes, trying out the trapeze, and soaking up fun at the nightly events and performances.

Before you book your trip to Club Med Bali, here is your cheat sheet to getting the best experience, courtesy of Club Med Bali Village Chief Eric Lejeune.

“My family prefers to have a private excursion, instead of going on the group tours that Club Med organises.”

Club Med is able to put together private excursions upon request. We provide half day excursions (5 hours) or full day (10 hours). The basic package is to arrange for a car and driver, but guides are also available should you need one. You can even request for a guide who is conversant in either French, English, Korean, Chinese or Japanese.

“I have dietary restrictions.”

No problem – Club Med has special meal options in place for guests who have specific dietary requirements, such as food allergies or vegetarians. If you have any dietary requests, simply inform your travel agent upon reservation or our reception team upon arrival to the resort. Our F&B team will then follow up to ensure all your dietary needs are met.

“Ok, we love our kids but my wife and I would really appreciate having child-free meals during our holiday!”

Club Med Bali is the dream destination for family holidays as we offer guests the chance to experience moments together or apart, in their own comfort. You can arrange for a babysitter in advance at our reception, and even arrange for the babysitter to meet you at your room. The babysitter will provide services based on the needs of the parents, which means you can opt to have a babysitter for a few hours, half a day, or even an entire day. In addition, our Club Med’s Kids Club concept provides children from as young as 4 months up to 17 years old with a range of fun and engaging activities, leaving you and your spouse free to enjoy some time together.

“I’ve heard so much about your G.Os! What is the hiring criteria like?”

The profession of G.O (Gentil Organisateur) was invented by Club Med 60 years ago. G.Os are the ambassadors of the Club Med spirit and all G.Os must reflect the five values of Club Med: Multicultural, Pioneer, Friendliness, Freedom, and Responsibility. Every G.O has to provide a good sense of service in all areas, spread the Club Med culture, and embrace multicultural diversity. Most importantly, they have to enjoy the moments spent with our guests and deliver happiness to them.

“The activities are great, but I’ll like to have some peaceful me-time.”

Club Med Bali’s Zen Pool, which is strictly for adults only, is set away from the hustle and bustle of the resort, and offers guests an oasis of serenity. With double four-poster beds and day-beds floating on water, this is where you can go to truly unwind. Psst … this is our CEO’s favourite spot too! If you’re looking for a peaceful spot practice meditation, I recommend heading out to the beach-facing Balinese Palapa at sunrise. The views in the morning are absolutely breathtaking.

“Which are the must-try food items at Club Med Bali?”

Chocolate City is a dessert specially created for Club Med Bali by our regional pastry chef and is a decadent blend of chocolate cheese mousse and apple filling with whipped chocolate cream on a crispy base. It is a bestseller at our gourmet lounge, The Deck. As for cocktails, you definitely need to try the Balalaika. Made with vodka, triple sec, grapefruit juice, and passion fruit syrup, this is a refreshing and delicious drink.

“I want to surf! Any tips?”

For surfers, the stretch of sea in front of Club Med Bali is also known as the “Club Med Point Break”. It is a good surfing spot especially between the new moon and full moon, where the waves are the most conducive for surfing. In the near future, we will also be organising surfing lessons for our guests so look out for that!

“All the spa treatments sound so good. Which one should I go for?”

You can’t go wrong with the Balinese Massage at Club Med Bali’s Mandara Spa. This traditional treatment is great for unknotting tired muscles, especially after an afternoon of trapeze lessons or a night of partying.

“Ok, I’m sold. When is the best time for me to visit Club Med Bali?”

July, August, and September are the best months to visit Club Med Bali, as the weather is always warm between 24 to 35 degrees Celsius, with a nice cool breeze.

For as long as she can remember, Vanessa has always wanted to escape to a place where no one knows her. But because that’s not always possible, she often retreats into the world of books and pop culture. When she does get to travel, she prefers going off the beaten track and back to nature. Some of her best memories include napping in a treehouse in Laos and cycling across padi fields in Bali.
