Does This Cult CC Cream Live Up To the Hype? Buy Buy Buy

We’re talking, of course, about the IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ SPF50+

When I attended the media launch of IT Cosmetics – a new-to-Singapore beauty brand that’s stocked in Sephora – during the second week of September, I was told that its CC cream was already sold out in stores.

Clearly, the beauty junkies know their stuff, because this was the first time I’d heard of this cult beauty brand, which was developed by plastic surgeons and dermatologists. Jamie Kern Lima, co-founder and CEO of IT Cosmetics was inspired to start a makeup brand that had skin-loving benefits, as she herself – a former TV news anchor – has spent a large part of her life concealing severe hereditary rosacea and hyperpigmentation. All the makeup she had used until then creased, cracked, or caked, making her look older.

The line itself is extremely comprehensive, with everything from base makeup to stuff for the eyes, lips and cheeks. This CC cream, however, remains a top 5 bestseller.

The pitch: It’s supposed to give full coverage, and at the same time, protect your skin with SPF50+ UVA/UVB sunscreen, and here’s the fascinating part: It’s a physical sunscreen, but more on that later. It’s also purported to hydrate the skin, smooth skin texture, and enhance skin brightness, promising to never crack. And that’s not all: It also contains an anti-ageing serum made up of skin-loving things such as hydrolysed collagen, peptides, vitamins, and antioxidants.

At the media launch, Lima emphasised that this cream is supposed to improve your skin condition in the long term.

Having road-tested a fair number of base makeup products in my time, you can’t fault me for being slightly skeptical. This cream was starting to sound like a unicorn: Legendary, but non-existent.

So how did it fare when I used it on my combination skin?

While you’re advised to use it with the brand’s Heavenly Luxe Complexion Perfection Brush #7, I found that it blended well even when I just used my fingers and, a little goes a long way. Just a small dab of the product on my cheeks, chin and nose, was sufficient to cover my entire face. It definitely delivered on its “full coverage” promise, as my enlarged pores and couple of pigmentation spots, along with redness, had disappeared under the cream.

What surprised me the most was how it felt like a second skin, even though it’s imbued with physical sunscreen. I usually prefer chemical sunscreens over physical ones, as the latter feels like it’s sitting uncomfortably on the surface of my skin.

The finish was that nice, hard-to-achieve mix of matte and glowing.

When I first tried it, it was over my usual serum, moisturiser, and sunscreen, so my skin did look slightly shiny after a few hours, which was to be expected since I’d layered so many products over it.

However, the second time I tried it, it was sans skincare, and I was amazed at how it looked freshly applied even after a few hours of wear.

Using IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ SPF50+ alone

It’s early days so it’s hard to say whether this cream delivers on its skincare benefits – according to clinical studies, 96% saw softer, smoother skin; 85% saw a reduction in wrinkles; and 77% saw smaller pores in just 10 days – but given that it’s so far delivered on everything it promised, I’m hopeful.

There are a total of five shades available for this CC cream, and the Light shade – the second lightest – best suited my complexion.

The other IT Cosmetics product I tried and loved was Your Most Beautiful You Anti-Aging Face Palette, a palette with an anti-ageing matte bronzer, radiance luminizer, and brightening blush. I’m far from being a contouring expert, but I liked how sweeping a little of the bronzer just below my cheekbones and along my jawline made my face look just a little more sculpted.
