… except one. You couldn’t pay us enough to stay there even for just one night.
Fancy owning an entire village? If you have £20 million in your pocket, one village could be yours.
West Heslerton, located near Malton in North Yorkshire, England, encompasses 2,116 acres of land, on which sits a 21-bedroom mansion, 43 residential houses and cottages, a pub, and more. But taking over the village also means you’ll be responsible for the upkeep of the village and its vibrant community spirit. Think you can handle it?
Okay, okay, so buying an entire village may be a tad overboard. We scout around the internet for iconic properties that are open and ready for us to move in.
The Playboy Mansion
The Playboy Mansion, up for sale for US$200 million since the beginning of this year, includes 12 bedrooms, a wine cellar, a tennis court, a home theatre, a free-form swimming pool with a friggin’ grotto, three aviary buildings … and Hugh Hefner himself.
Yup, you read that right. According to the terms of the sale, it’s stipulated that the 89-year-old pajamas-clad playboy must be allowed to live on the property for the rest of his life. If only the same could be said for another Hugh ….
The Petersham House Penthouse
Once upon a time, from 2007 to 2008, Hugh Grant stayed in this gorgeous penthouse. You know what this means, right? If you bought this property, you’d be the owner of Hugh Grant’s former bachelor pad! Priced at £10 million, the 4,665 sq ft penthouse has three bedrooms, an outdoor kitchen, a gym, and a wrap-around terrace with a jacuzzi. And Hugh Grant’s butt print somewhere, of course.
For US$100 million, you can be the owner of the late Michael Jackson’s iconic Neverland Ranch! Except it’s no longer known as Neverland Ranch. Renamed Sycamore Valley Ranch, this picturesque estate covers 2,700 acres of land that was specially designed to seamlessly blend with the natural surroundings. The property consists of a huge outdoor BBQ area, a tennis court, a 50-seat movie theatre, a guest house, multipurpose barns, and a main residence with six bedrooms.
Britney Spears’ NoHo Penthouse
Listed for US$7.3 million, this sprawling four-storey property occupies the 10th, 11th, 12th and penthouse levels! It also comes with three large bedrooms, four-and-a-half baths, and a spacious roof deck that overlooks New York City. We would certainly want a piece of this!
Home of Silence of the Lambs’ Buffalo Bill
Does this place look creepy AF or what? The producers of Silence of the Lambs must have thought so too, because this was used as the home of serial killer Buffalo Bill in the 1991 film adaptation. But we doubt that’s the real reason why this property, located in Pennsylvania, US, still hasn’t found a buyer ever since it was listed for sale in August 2015 and despite garnering plenty of interest and lowering the price from US$300,000 to US$224,900. To get to the nearby town, you’ll have to walk through an eerie-looking tunnel that’s said to be haunted. Er, no thanks.
Chris Hemsworth’s Malibu Estate
Well, you know this estate has been blessed by a god, at least. Saving the best for last, Chris Hemsworth and his wife’s Malibu estate looks about as stunning as the actor himself. Built in 1992 and redone by actor Paul Hogan in 2012, this US$6.5 million property is beautifully decked with Victorian-style elements while maintaining the modern European aesthetic. With windows all around, it invites lots of natural light, giving each room a heavenly glow.
