Don’t worry. Be happy.
In need of a mood lifter? Here are some places that are guaranteed to turn that frown upside down.
1. Head to Blu Jaz for a night of stand-up comedy
The Comedy Club Asia organises shows like Kings & Queens of Comedy Asia. On Wednesday and Thursday, they also do an open mic night at Blu Jaz Cafe. Coming up in November, they will be throwing a series of shows called Nutty November featuring Australian comics like Danny McGinlay and Mike Neven. More details about The Comedy Club Asia here.
2. Visit Clinton Street Baking Company & Restaurant for a slice of heaven
The American diner seats about 60 people and it doesn’t take reservations. Beating the crowds and scoring a table there is enough to make any diehard foodie’s day. But if you have to wait a bit, the food and shakes are worth it. Those with a sweet tooth will be pleased to know that you can buy the cakes, pies, cookies, and scones to go. From November 15 to 30 December, the restaurant will be launching festive pies like Maple Bourbon Pecan Pie and Pumpkin Butterscotch Pie. Meanwhile, a sip of the Bourbon Sea Salt Caramel milkshake is just what every stressed out exec needs on a weekday.
Clinton Street Baking Company & Restaurant is located at 31 Purvis Street
3. Shake up with a cake shake at Cake Spade
The first reaction most people have when they see a cake shake is “Wooooowwwww ….” and then they break into a smile. The combination of all your childhood’s favourite desserts in one single shake is simply the most joyful sight ever. Cake Spade’s Unicone is for those who have had a rough week and want to start the weekend with a huge dose of whimsy and sweetness. Topped with candy floss, rainbow sprinkles, and red velvet cake, it’s the dessert that’ll remind you of carefree days watching My Little Pony.
Cake Spade is located at 1 Tras Link, Orchid Hotel, #01-06
4. Hook up with Joyologist Dr Yvonne Looi
Laughter is the best medicine and you can get a huge hearty dose of it with Laughter Yoga. The group aims to use laughter as a form of gentle exercise that’ll fill your lungs with oxygen, clean out your breathing passages, and strengthen your immune system. Join the Meetup group to get the latest info on the next session. It’s free to join and the group usually meet up at the green grass patch outside Asian Civilisations Museum.
